Star-spangled salute at Fort Hamilton

Old Glory reigned supreme during a Flag Day celebration at Fort Hamilton Army Base, which drew patriots, young and old, to hail the nation’s emblem.

Soldiers, civilians and guests showed their true colors by commemorating the Stars and Stripes during a tribute led by garrison commander Col. Stephen V. Smith, which also hailed the 234th anniversary of the United States Army.

The pomp-filled program featured a recitation of the Soldier’s Creed by Cpl. James Contessa, followed by a patriotic medley from local students in honor of June 14, 1777 %u2013 the day the Founding Fathers officially adopted the flag.
