Brooklynites transformed John Paul Jones Park into a patriot’s haven during a Flag Day ceremony, coordinated by State Senator Marty Golden.

Local veterans groups and area residents joined their civic leaders and elected officials to deliver a red, white and blue salute to American service members stationed at home and abroad.

The pomp-filled program at the sprawling green – also known as Cannonball Park, 4th Avenue and 101st Street – featured patriotic musical performances, and the distribution of small flags in addition to “Support Our Troops” posters and lawn signs.

Flag Day is celebrated on June 14 and commemorates the adoption of the United States flag, which happened on that day by resolution of the Second Continental Congress in 1777.
