State officials wanted the public to know that they had begun — really begun, this time! — demolition at the waterfront site of the proposed Brooklyn Bridge Park.
But instead of inviting the media to cover the demolition of Pier 1 — and its famous “Brooklyn Works!” sign — or interview the people charged with spending more than $200 million in public money on a luxury housing and open space development, the state sent reporters a Web link to photos taken by their hired photographer.
