To The Editor:
Upon arriving at school for a new academic year, the children of PS 207 had to walk past piles of trash left in front of the Kimball Street entrance.
The children of Marine Park deserve better! What kind of educator welcomes children on their first day of school to a building with a pile of smelly trash out front? The residents of Kimball Street and the children of this community deserve better than a principal who accepts filth and trash piled out in front of an entrance of her school for days on end.
Where is the accountability? How can the Department of Sanitation allow this situation to go on? What were some of the parents’ reactions when they saw a pile of trash on the sidewalk in front of the Kimball Street entrance? What does it say of our educational system? What kind of learning takes place inside a building that greets children on the first and second day to such filth?
I ask such questions because I look at Public School 207 and see a mismanaged, visually unappealing dump. Don’t our children deserve better?
Where is the Department of Education? Where is the Department of Sanitation? Where are our elected officials? Public School 207 more closely resembles a dump than an educational building. Why are the principal and her custodial staff not being held accountable for creating an unsanitary and unwelcoming learning environment?
