Visions of sugar-plum fairies came to life as seasonal festivities got underway in Bay Ridge.

Area residents helped jumpstart the holidays with a tree illumination at McKinley Park %u2013 Fort Hamilton and Bay Ridge parkways %u2013 where mom, dad and the kids joined forces like-minded revelers for a festive ceremony presented by State Senator Marty Golden in conjunction with the Southwest Brooklyn Parks Task Force.

Hot chocolate, caroling by a choir from St. Anselm’s School, 365 83rd Street, and a frolic with Santa %u2013 better known as grassroots gladiator Chip Cafiero %u2013 capped the merrymaking.
