Sidney operation
Three youths mugged a 38-year-old on Sidney Place near Joralemon Street on April 4.
The three suspects bumped into the victim as he walked by them at 6:30 pm, then surrounded and threatened the man, ordering him to give up his property, cops said.
The thieves ran off with the victim’s iPhone, iPod and $15, cops were told.
Sinful steal
Talk about a shonda!
With Passover just days away, a leader of the Brooklyn Heights Synagogue called police to report that someone had swindled them out of $31,200.
Cops were told that a synagogue administrator at the Remsen Street house of worship had checked the congregation’s bank account online and discovered that it was a lot lighter than expected.
Members of the congregation questioned the disparity and found that someone had cashed a forged check for the missing amount.
Tea time
A pair of classy thugs is being sought for robbing a DUMBO deliveryman after — of course — their morning tea.
Police said the victim was in the process of dropping off a food order at a store near the corner of Washington and Front streets at around 5:10 am on March 31 when he was given a large bill as payment.
Needing change, the victim walked into the Peas and Pickles all-night grocery store and waited on line behind two men ordering tea before he could trade it in for smaller bills.
He got the money and exited the store, only to be confronted by the two “tea”–totalers, who put him in a headlock and jammed a gun in his side until he handed the cash over.
Victimless crime
A patrolman jumped into action on April 5 when he saw a cellphone thief being chased by his victim near the corner of Schermerhorn and Livingston streets.
The frantic chase began at around 12:15 pm when the cop saw a panicked woman hot on her mugger’s heels. The officer joined the chase, passed the woman, and apprehended the sticky-fingered thief at the corner of Hoyt and State streets.
But when he brought the thief back to the scene of the crime, the victim was no where to be found. The thief had dropped the phone during the chase, and the victim had seen it on the ground. Apparently, she had picked it up and continued on her way.
Water bandits
Thieves ransacked a DUMBO apartment, taking over $3,600 in electronics on April 2.
The 46-year-old Water Street resident said that someone broke into his apartment, which is near Main Street, after 10 am, and helped himself to a laptop computer, a cellphone, and two digital cameras.
2nd time a charm?
The thief — possibly the same man who mucked up a car swipe from a Cadman Plaza West parking garage in mid-March — may have finally struck gold on March 29.
Officials said that someone sneaked into a parking garage on Cadman Plaza West near Middagh Street sometime between 3:30 and 11 am on March 29 and sped off with an unlocked $53,000 Range Rover owned by a Willow Street resident.
The thief reportedly drove through the garage’s security gate as he made his escape, officials said.
The crime is shocking similar to a failed attempt 10 days earlier, though that effort failed.
