First in flight
Silver wings to Robert Calungsod, math specialist at Bedford Academy High School and one of 28 teachers and mentors chosen from around the country to attend the Air Force Recruiting Service’s fourth annual FIRST Leadership Program at Schriever Air Force Base at the US Academy in Colorado.
Teachers and mentors in the science, technology, and robotics areas were given an opportunity to meet with senior Air Force leaders as part of the recruiting outreach effort.
Our borough son was selected for his essay describing how he gets his students excited about science and technology, and how to stay motivated.
“Just like our students at Bedford Academy High School — 100 percent inner-city minorities who have been constantly in the bad light because of the missteps of their counterparts but manage to achieve beyond expectations — I will stand tall and proud to apply for the US Air Force Leadership Program and hopefully raise the banner for the underdogs,” he said. “Nothing is impossible if we work hard for it.”
