A 15-year-old boy is fighting for his life at a local hospital after being injured in a shooting in Bensonhurst on Monday afternoon, police reported.
Locals called 911 to report several shots fired near 62nd Street and 20th Avenue around 1 p.m, according to police. First responders arrived on the scene to find the victim lying on the street unresponsive, with a gunshot wound to the back.

Paramedics rushed the victim to Maimonides Medical Center, where he was to be in a critical condition as of July 17.
The suspect reportedly fled westbound on 20th Avenue, setting off an urgent manhunt on the ground and from the air, with cops also checking nearby subway stops following reports of suspected sightings. Police discovered bullet casings on the ground where the teen was found.
One neighbor told Brooklyn Paper that he has recently witnessed several fist fights on 20th Avenue between two teen groups from a local high school and believes the shooting is linked.
No arrests have been made, and the investigation is ongoing, an NYPD spokesperson said.
Between Jan. 1 and July 9, when the most recent NYPD data is available, there had been one reported shooting incident in the 62nd Precinct, which includes Bensonhurst — down from the same time last year, when there had been two shootings reported.
