If you’re after barbecues and booze amid the sweltering heat this summer, Greenpoint is your new destination — Blackout bar has an all-you-can-party deal that’s going to turn some heads.
Every Sunday at the new watering hole, $15 gets you a plate of grilled goodness and a stamp for as many “Blackout Brews” you can drink until 8 pm. And with an expansive patio that’s open until midnight, it’s a guaranteed workday hangover we can stand behind.
“There’s plenty of competition in general in Greenpoint, so we’ve stepped it up a notch,” said Blackout co-owner Jason Gnewikow, who opened the bar on Manhattan Avenue near McDonald’s in August. “It’s almost the same deal everyone else does – every beer gets you a burger – but this seems more exciting.”
Hipsters flocked to the patio last Sunday, taking full advantage of the burgers, dogs and Greenpoint-local potato salad on the menu (they’ve got all you vegetarians covered, too). The brew — think Yuengling, a dark but delightfully chuggable amber – flowed freely throughout the day.
Even a mid-day rainstorm couldn’t drive customers away.
“I know their strategy and I like it – the more you drink the more you wanna eat, and vice versa,” said Annie Runnels, an endless cup in her hand. “It does truly feel like a backyard barbeque.”
If that’s not enough, Blackout has other daily drink specials, including two-for-one Tuesdays and handmade Bloody Marys on weekends. It’s all inside a not-surprisingly dark, instant Brooklyn classic that blasts good music.
Summer in Williamsburg is so 2009.
