Editor’s note: The Brooklyn Paper’s esteemed editor in chief Vince DiMiceli, who usually edits the world’s best Cyclones coverage, is on vacation, and deputy editor Nathan Tempey knows only slightly more than nothing about America’s pastime. Sure, he can tell a home run when he sees one, but mention a passed ball or a can of corn to him and you’ll get a blank stare. So bear with us as we weather this trying time, and let Tempey know what he is getting wrong in the comments.
Cyclones 7
Aberdeen 0
July 6 at MCU Park
The Cyclones did a complete 180 during Sunday’s game, redeeming themselves after a crushing loss against the Aberdeen Ironbirds the previous night.
The Clones pitching was back on point, as Carlos Valdez made it through five innings giving up only two hits, striking out six, and walking only one batter. Gaither Bumgardner got the ball in the fourth and pitched four perfect innings, giving up nary a hit and striking out four batters. Bumgardner also got the save.
The bats finally woke up for the Clones, too, bringing in 7 goals on 13 hits. Tucker Tharp started it off in the fourth inning with a single to right, and Brooklyn’s home-team continued to play small ball to score three in the fourth and four in the sixth. Jeff Diehl also extended his hit streak to 10 straight games.
Today begins a game marathon for the Mini-Mets. They’ll take on the Hudson Valley Renegades in four games in 24 hours at MCU Park, starting with a doubleheader at 6 pm tonight and continuing in a second two-game batch that starts at 11:30 am on Tuesday.
