The Mekons will play the Bell House!

Some “genuine legends” of the 1970s punk-rock scene are coming to the Bell House next Friday.

The Mekons are not your typical stud-wearing, hardcore-playing, mic-blasting headbangers. Their take on punk is infused with folk, country, reggae and electronica (think the Sex Pistols and the Clash mixed with David Byrne and Hank Williams). The newest album, “Natural” from 2007, even has an acoustic feel.

“The Mekons are genuine legends,” said Jack McFadden, the Bell House’s booker, who expects a sellout.

Jon Langford, one of the three founders, wasn’t as boastful, but he did promise a great show — mostly because the Bell House stop is the last one on the current tour.

“You’re lucky, cause we work things out as we go along,” he said. “I imagine it will have gotten a lot louder and more raucous by the time we get to The Bell House.”

The Mekons at the Bell House [149 Seventh St. at Third Avenue in Gowanus, (718) 643-6510], Friday, July 31, 7 pm. Tickets, $15.
