The weekender! Here’s what you should do on Saturday and Sunday

Fight night

The Weekender has a full slate this Saturday and Sunday — but thankfully, The Brooklyn Paper provides this handy guide to everything that’s going on. Click on the links below to be taken to our coverage of all the action:

Saturday is the 100th anniversary celebration of the Prison Ship Martyrs Monument in Fort Greene Park. This is a big deal. One hundred years ago, President-elect Taft showed up. President-elect Obama has been invited, but is unlikely to attend — but either way, this is a great day to honor Brooklyn’s Revolutionary War past.

Gersh Kuntzman recommends buying the new Obama book by Park Slope photographer Scout Tufankjian — who followed the senator around for two years!

• Don’t miss the pro wrestling event at the Brooklyn Lyceum on Saturday.

• The “Heart of Brooklyn” fake trolley will return this weekend. Hopefully, it’ll do a better job of luring tourists than it has in the past! Then again, you can use it as a shuttle to get you around town.

• Go check out the cosmetically enhanced Christmas Tree on the Metrotech campus Downtown.

The eternal flame atop the Prison Ship Martyrs Monument will be reignited on Saturday (prompting plenty of jokes about why an “eternal” flame would need to be relit).

• Get one of your last chances to use East River State Park, which will be closed in January due to budget cuts.

• The new BookCourt annex is open on Court Street!

• The Brooklyn Museum has a kids book fair on Saturday. Meet your favorite author.

• Be the first to make a reservation at the new Morton’s steakhouse on Adams Street in Downtown.

As always, these and other great events are in our exclusive family calendar, our great nightlife calendar, and our matchless events calendar.

Catch the action at the Brooklyn Lyceum on Saturday.
