The weekender! Here’s what you should do on Saturday and Sunday

Whatta jam packed weekend it’s going to be in Brooklyn, so thank goodness that you have The Brooklyn Paper to make sense of it all. Click on the links below to be taken to our coverage of all the action:

• First and foremost, get thee to the Atlantic Antic this Sunday. Yes, most street fairs are only good if you need sweatsocks or a zeppole. But the Atlantic Antic — now in its 34th year — is the real deal. All day, hundreds of Moms and Pops turn Atlantic Avenue from Hicks Street in Brooklyn Heights to Fourth Avenue in Boerum Hill into a long Brooklyn bazaar with nary a generic vendor in site. For info, visit www.atlanticave.org.

• The Gilbert and George retrospective opened today at the Brooklyn Museum, but this Saturday is the first Saturday of the month — meaning the whole museum is free after 5 pm. The freebie also features dance parties, movies, lectures and artist talks. Visit www.brooklynmuseum.org for complete info.

• Artists inside the historic, quirky and vitally important Brooklyn Navy Yard are throwing open their studios from noon–6 pm on Saturday. For info, visit www.bnyarts.com or call (347) 448-4931.

• Mike McLaughlin tells us about a great new bar, the Bell House, in Gowanus.

The Atlantic Antic is on Sunday.

• Ben Muessig offers his personal guide to Greenwood Heights, the hot and cool neighborhood that’s just south of the South Slope.

• Sarah Palin is inspiring all kinds of artistic reaction from Brooklynites this weekend at the Brooklyn Waterfront Arts Coalition show in Red Hook.

• And, of course, our own puppetry, kids theater and mine critic, Trey Dooley, gives us yet another reason to love the Prospect Park Zoo — the new miniature ponies.

As always, these and other great events are in our exclusive family calendar, our great nightlife calendar, and our matchless events calendar.

Meet Abe — a miniature horse. No, he's NOT a pony, as Trey Dooley reports.
