Lots of burgs
The story this week was a surprising number of break-in. Here’s a roundup:
• One thief broke into a Kingsland Avenue house on July 29 at around 1 pm.
Cops say the thief entered through the fire escape in the back of the building, which is between Driggs and Nassau avenues. The burglar made out with over $2,300 worth of property, including a stereo, iPhone, iPod and Nikon camera. The same perp apparently stole a TV and two digital cameras from the apartment across the hall.
• On Aug. 1, a thief used a similar strategy and entered a house on North Seventh Street between Berry Street and Wythe Avenue at around 7:30 pm. This thief had similar taste, and got away with a digital camera and a laptop.
• On Aug. 2, a burglar made his way into an apartment on North Eighth street between Wythe and Kent avenues at around 2:30 am. All of the roommates in the apartment reported being asleep, but they certainly noticed that the thief had absconded with a Powerbook.
Bar brawl
Two thugs asked for a fight — and got one! — on Aug. 2, attacking a 26-year-old man on his way home from a bar and mugging him of $100.
The man was on his way home from the bar a popular Polish bar at the corner of Manhattan and Nassau avenues at around 3 am, when the two men walked up behind him, grabbed him by the neck and told him to “hold still.”
The victim struggled, receiving lacerations in the chin and lip.
Moto madness
Crime may move at a faster pace next week, as thieves got away with several motorized vehicles in a series of incidents last week. Here’s a roundup:
• A thief took a motorcycle from in front of a building on Freeman Street, between West and Franklin streets, overnight on July 27. The motorcycle was left unattended between 7 pm and 5 am, and police are still looking for the culprit.
• Another criminal got his wheels at around 11 that same night, stealing a car from a spot on Diamond street, between Nassau and Driggs avenues. The owner, a 26-year-old man. said the card was worth $8,000.
• Another car was stolen on Richardson Street between Kingsland Avenue and Humbolt Street. The 56-year-old victim had parked his father’s car at 5 pm on July 26 and came back two days later to find the $3,000 vehicle missing from its spot.
• Also on July 28, thieves made away with another motorcycle, on North Third street between Berry Street and Wythe Avenue. The 38-year-old owner told cops that he had parked it there at around 7:30 pm.
• A 40-year-old woman’s car was stolen from a spot on Wythe Avenue between North Third and Fourth streets, between 4 pm on July 29 and 7 pm on Aug. 1.
• Lastly, a car was reported stolen from Morgan Avenue, between Withers Street and Maspeth Avenue at around 7:50 am on July 31. The owner was given some good news; that the 113th Precinct in neighboring Queens had found and towed the car. Of course, this came with some bad news: the car was found without wheels and tires, and it was running without keys.
You were sleeping
“Don’t sleep in the subway” was always good advice, and no more so than on July 30, when thieves robbed a sleeping man on the L train near the Graham Avenue stop at around 2:45 am.
When the victim woke up, he discovered that his Blackberry, leather belt and wallet were all gone.
