They’re elf portraits!
A pair of Santa’s elves took a break from their busy Christmas preparations to snap selfies with any kind-hearted shopper who visited Montague Street in Brooklyn Heights bearing warm clothes for the less fortunate on Saturday, and participants say the “elf promotion” was an appropriate great way to ring in the holiday season.
“It was very cute, it’s Christmas, it was a nice thing to do,” said Cobble Hill resident Karen Moshman, who sent her photo to her very impressed family and friends “I’m not very good at selfies so the elf took the selfie for me — so it was really a selfie by the elfie.”
The Montague Street Business Improvement District organized the visit from St. Nick’s helpers as part Small Business Saturday — an event that encourages people to shop locally after Black Friday.
Moshman dropped off socks in a box — others kicked in gloves, hats, and scarves — which will be donated to kids across school district 13 — encompassing Brooklyn Heights, Fort Greene, Clinton Hill, Dumbo, Park Slope, Downtown, and parts of Bedford-Stuyvesant.
Plenty of local youngsters lined up for their “elfie” — all swearing they belonged on Santa’s “nice” list, according to one of the festive sprites — although she wasn’t so sure.
“Out of all the kids, every single one said ‘nice,’ Their parents might think differently’” said elf Emily Season, who donned a furry hat, holiday lights, and candy-cane striped shirt for the occasion.
Season also made the journey from the North Pole for the charitable event last year, and said more people donated cozy clothing this time around. And she’s already gearing up for next year, which she predicts will be even more of a hit.
“I think we brought a lot of joy to everyone on the street,” said Season. “I think it’s getting bigger, better, and more fun each year.”
