Police arrested a 46-year-old man after an early morning mugging on Fulton Street on March 19.
According to the victim, 34, the suspect asked him for some change at 6:15 am. The victim — perhaps taunting the panhandler or perhaps teaching him the value of a dollar — held out a $10 bill and said, “This is work money,” implying that he had earned it from the sweat of his brow.
Seeing green, the moocher grabbed the cash. The younger man demanded it back, but the thief brandished a crowbar and said, “If you don’t leave, I’m going to hit you with this.” The victim called 911 from a nearby phone, and an officer was able to track the culprit to an apartment on Downing Street, where he arrested the suspect.
Beat it
Police arrested a 42-year-old man who attacked a couple on Lafayette Avenue on March 15.
For reasons not explained in the incident report, the miscreant allegedly punched a 57-year-old man in the mouth at 8:30 pm on the block between St. James Place and Grand Avenue. He also hurled a rock at him, which hit the victim in the legs.
Nightcap-ped
A 30-year-old man was arrested for beating up a woman of the same age in her Greene Avenue apartment on March 15 after the lady had done some drinking in a bar.
It was unclear if the woman met the man in the bar, but she told police that the man repeatedly punched her in the face and back, threw her first into the wall and slammed a door on her pinky finger at around 10:15 pm in her dwelling between Waverly and Clinton avenues.
Need not apply
An industrious burglar claimed he was merely “looking for work” he encountered a startled resident inside her Clermont Avenue home on March 18.
The man fled after the 31-year-old woman blocked him on the stairway leading up from the basement of the house, which is between Willoughby and DeKalb avenues, at 2:40 pm. She followed him down to the cellar and saw that the burglar had damaged the door, but apparently had not stolen anything.
Ski mask season
Two masked villains mugged a 14-year-old girl near the corner of DeKalb and Hudson avenues on March 16.
“Give me everything you have,” one lawbreaker said while his accomplice acted as a lookout in the 8 pm heist. The teenager told police that she surrendered her purse, which she said contained $350 and an iPod.
Dial ‘R’ for rob
Two ruthless reprobates punched a 24-year-old woman and threw her to the ground near the corner of Lafayette and Clinton avenues on March 16.
Before attacking the victim, one of the wrongdoers asked her for the time, which was 9 pm. Once she was distracted, they pounced and stole her iPhone.
