An end-of-summer adventure %u2013 and then some %u2013 was in store for revelers as they marched to the jaunty beat of one of Brooklyn’s premier parties, the Third Avenue festival, which this year went green for the first time in its 36-year history.

The widely-awaited street spectacle, organized by the Merchants of Third Avenue, drew thousands of fun-lovers to the stretch between 69th through 94th streets where they sampled the best of Brooklyn at scores of vantage points and exhibitor stalls, some featuring the lowdown on available community services from dozens of not-for-profit organizations.

Marching bands community groups and costumed performers helped transform the avenue into a dynamic boulevard of wondrous sights and sounds, while showstoppers lining the route included live entertainment performed by local bands, among them jazz and Dixieland bands, plus magicians and jugglers.

Vying for attention along the way were dozens of vendor booths, offering tempting foods, wares and other crowd-pleasers.

Eco-friendly displays included a hot tub by Super Roofer whose water is warmed by solar energy, a bicycle meter at Tri and Run for Your Life, 7924 3rd Avenue, which gauged how many kilowatts are utilized during a bike ride and a solar-powered cell phone charger at a Verizon store.
