Bushwig, the annual festival of drag performance at Secret Project Robot, drew dozens of performers and more than a thousand fans to revel in brassiness dressed up in wigs, platform heels, and chiffon.
More than 60 performers graced the stages over 14 hours on Saturday and each brought more sass than the last.
“You could tell that everyone had done a lot of planning and working and choreography,” said Matty Horrorchata, one of the co-organizers and also a performer.
One of the highlights of the day was performer Untitled Queen’s mashup of Missy Elliott’s “The Rain” with the Wicked Witch of the West’s melting scene from the “Wizard of Oz” .
Some drag queens might bristle at the thought of drenching their magnificent outfits, but Queen said it was not that bad.
“It turns out water does not take off makeup as much as sweat and oil do,” said Queen.
Another highlight was Miranda Lanvin, who wore a sewing machine as she sang Buffalo Bill’s song from “Silence of the Lambs.”
“It was a brilliant choice,” said Queen. “It was chilling.”
