I am contacting you because you are the only paper that responded to the speeding on East 66th Street.
This block, East 66th Street, between Avenues T and U, had sent in a request with signatures for a ‘no truck’ sign. Well, after a year and a half we got the sign but not the proper one. Instead of ‘restricted trucks’ or ‘no commercial vehicles,’ we got ‘truck route’ with arrows directing trucks away from the block. This is like catching King Kong with a butterfly net,
I have written the Department of Transportation (DOT) a least 10 times and they don’t care. I think if a truck driver sees a sign that shows ‘restricted,’ he would pay more attention than to a useless-high-up-on- the-pole ‘truck route’ sign.
This is a problem block with major speeding, the running of red lights and disregard for pedestrians. Nothing has been done about the speeding on this block even after the death of one person last summer.
The local politicians are useless and have zero clue about what goes on here.
