What started as a routine traffic stop on on Nov. 25 escalated quickly when cops spotted various drugs in the vehicle — which turned out to be a stolen car, according to police.
Police pulled over the 22-year-old suspect from Queens after he allegedly for running a red light in a stolen car on E. 56th Street in a 2017 Nissan Altima near Avenue M at about 8:45 pm — and they later discovered the four-wheeler with Georgia state plates wasn’t his, and he didn’t even have a legal license to drive, according to District Attorney Eric Gonzalez’s office.
Police initially spotted 10 glassine envelopes of heroin in the front driver’s seat and 29 ziplock bags of cocaine on the floor, according to authorities. And when police further searched the suspect and the car, they found an additional 190 packets of heroin, 37 xanax pills, and marijuana, officials said.
Police charged the suspect with criminal possession of a controlled substance and stolen property, unauthorized use of a vehicle, and aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle — and failure to obey a traffic signal, according to the District Attorney’s office.
He is being held on $10,000 bail.
