Savvy students at Mark Twain Intermediate School for the Gifted and Talented offered eco-buffs food for thought when they transformed empty pizza boxes into unique solar ovens, and then teamed up for a yummy field test.
The industrious bunch cooked s’mores while documenting temperature increases during a demonstration in the school yard, 2401 Neptune Avenue, and then enjoyed the fruits of their labors by eating the sticky confection.
The program was part of the New York City Council on the Environment’s Environmental Education programming, which introduces intermediate and high school students to “meaningful” projects about conservation, alternative energy and other ways to reduce their carbon footprints.
