Halloween is about candy, costumes, and trick or treating! Adults may have hijacked the holiday with sexy nurse costumes and boozy parties, but there are still plenty of tricks and treats available for tykes and tots. Going batty
Prospect Park Zoo celebrates the winged mammals favored by vampires with a special spooky science project about urban bats! This year’s Boo at the Zoo, happening on Saturday and Sunday from 11 am–4 pm, will also feature a haunted barn, a Costumed Character Scavenger Hunt, and other Halloween games and crafts.

Into the woods
Who needs a haunted house when you can wander a whole haunted forest? At the annual Halloween Haunted Walk and Fair from Prospect Park Alliance, kids can encounter werewolves, witches, and other Halloween spirits along the path through the park’s wooded Lookout Hill, which ends at Halloween Fair on the Nethermead with face-painting, games, and food trucks. Walking dead
The Boroughs of the Dead walking tour hosts a special kid-friendly edition of its Brooklyn Heights ramble, with more of a focus on ghosts and ghouls, and less on the grisly murders that created them. The 90-minute tour is appropriate for kids aged 8 and up.

Witch way
Bring the kids to Industry City for a Halloween edition of the Sunset Park Cinema Club, featuring a 12:15 pm screening of “Hocus Pocus,” starring Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Kathy Najimy as wild witches out on Halloween. The afternoon will also feature spooky storytelling, pumpkin carving, and a Halloween puppet show!

Pumpkins on parade!
Park Slope Parents host an early Halloween party, with pizza cooked in an outdoor oven, pumpkin-painting from noon to 1:30 pm, and a mini costume contest for kids and parents, parading around Washington Park at 3 pm, with awards for best family costume, most creative outfit, and most ferocious monster!

Kids can show off their outfits early at Sunday’s Greenpoint Children’s Halloween Parade, which will terrify pedestrians on Manhattan Avenue during the noon journey from Java Street to Norman Avenue and back. The free parade will be followed by a Spooktacular Party for younger kids (under 10) at 1 pm and a Zombie Nerf War at 4 pm for tweens (goggles and blasters provided).

Darkness falls across the land, the midnight hour is close at hand! But do not worry if you are found, ’cause you’ve got the soul for getting down!
