Filling the gap between the education, income and health of New Yorkers was as easy as a walk across the Brooklyn Bridge when United Way of New York City held its “Live United” festival jaunt along the historic viaduct.
The day of action kicked off with opening ceremonies at City Hall Park in Lower Manhattan, followed by the trek across the bridge to a volunteer festival at Cadman Plaza Park, Cadman Plaza West and Tillary Street, for a day of entertainment, family activities and information about available volunteer opportunities around the city.
The Live United campaign was developed, said a United Way spokesperson, with the understanding that there are three basic building blocks required for a good quality of life: sound education, which leads to a stable job; income to support a family; and good health.
“While these goals are beyond the reach of millions of Americans, New Yorkers can become an active part of the solution,” added the spokesperson.
