A speeding car burst into flames after its driver ran a red light and was hit by another vehicle in Sheepshead Bay on Dec. 29.
Police say the driver of the 2008 Infiniti was traveling towards Midwood when he sped through a red light at 7:06 pm. The second driver, in a 2002 Honda, made a left turn onto Quentin Road and slammed into the Infiniti.
A police spokesman said the impact caused the Infiniti to spiral into a utility pole and catch fire.
“It struck a pole and burst into flames,” he said.
Authorities say the driver of the Infiniti, who sustained burns on the majority of his body, was taken to Staten Island University Medical Center in stable condition. The driver of the second vehicle was taken to Kings County Hospital Center for injuries on his hand.
Police say the Highway Patrol Collision Squad is investigating the incident.
