Four blocks of Vanderbilt Avenue in Prospect Heights will be closed to traffic and open to pedestrians for Summer Streets on Vanderbilt Avenue, every Sunday in June (June 7, 14, 21 & 28) from 12−5 p.m.
Vanderbilt Avenue, Prospect Heights’ main street, will be closed to vehicular traffic between Park Place and Dean Street and transformed into a temporary pedestrian plaza for people to play, stroll, ride bikes and simply relax on a summer day. There will be music, art and gardening, face painting and games, sun and trees, shopping, eating and relaxing, biking and performances, and people watching, plus a few surprises.
Summer Streets on Vanderbilt is sponsored by the Vanderbilt Avenue Merchants District and the Prospect Heights Neighborhood Development Council in cooperation with the NYC Department of Transportation. It is a smaller version of the successful Summer Streets program, which ran along Park Avenue in Manhattan last August and is part of NYC’s initiative to create a healthier, more livable and sustainable city.
