It was an Akwesasne annihilation!
The Brooklyn Aviators destroyed the hated Akwesasne Warriors on Thursday night, slapping home an impressive 7–1 victory against the Canadian ice cutters at the Aviators Sports and Events Center.
Brooklyn’s rousing triumph brings an end to the team’s woeful four-game losing skid: the A’s fell to the Danbury Whalers on Feb. 10 before suffering three defeats last week — twice at the hands of Akwesasne and once to the New Jersey Outlaws.
The Aviators remain the fifth-ranked team in Federal Hockey League standings, but that could easily change in the week’s coming games against the Danville Dashers — the league’s lowest ranked team.
Brooklyn charged into the first period with three unanswered goals — including a stirring point by Michael Thompson, a venerable skater who returned to the Aviators earlier this month after a year-long sabbatical.
Akwesasne managed to score their one — and only — point in the second, but not before the Aviators fired a barrage of pucks at Warriors’ net minder Alexandre Vincent, scoring twice more and raising Brooklyn’s lead to five.
The final period was smooth sailing for Brooklyn’s boys of winter, who found the net twice before the final buzzer sounded.
