To The Editor:
This is in response to writer Chris Bischof’s recent letter about why Wal-Mart is not in the New York Metro area.
Wal-Mart’s anti-union stance, directed to all employees, is well known to many. Imagine a store that forbids freedom of choice, and forbids employees to organize for better wages. Why would New York City permit a company with such un-American views to operate here?
The writer also comments on union supermarkets, such as Pathmark, Waldbaum’s, etc., How are these employees hurting consumers? Our family shops at these stores, and enjoys the great price and service they offer.
Many cities across this great country ban the opening of new Wal-Mart stores. It’s not because of their workers but, rather, because of their business plan. A plan, which has been well documented; first, to conquer a town, then to price out local stores, forcing them to close, then to use the unemployed workers at minimum wage.
We suggest all who are interested in this debate to view the documentary, “Wal-Mart, the High Cost of Cheap Goods.”
We are sure that after viewing this film, many will understand how Wal-Mart functions, and how it treats its employees.
