Wallet be gone

Wallet swiped

A thief saw a misplaced wallet as an open opportunity — and a chance to get a bunch of Metrocards on Jan. 31.

A 25-year-old woman told police that she was shopping in the Duane Reade on 86th Street between Fourth and Fifth avenues at noon when she accidentally left her wallet on a cashier’s table.

When she realized that she had left it behind, she went back to the store, but the wallet was already gone.

The thief used one of the woman’s ATM cards to buy several Metrocards at the 86th Street station, officials said.

Cars looted

Two motorists were singing the blues last week after thieves busted in and looted their cabins.

On Feb. 1, a 48-year-old man told police that someone had shattered the passenger-side window to his 2004 Honda on Shore Road near 69th Street. The thief took a digital mapping device and a laptop computer.

Four days later, a 39-year-old woman said that someone had broken the window to her 2005 Ford F250 near her home on 80th Street and Narrows Avenue. The woman said that she parked at 5 pm on Feb. 5 and returned at 1:30 pm the next day to find the window was shattered and the navigation device and satellite radio gone.

Wheel whisk

A 65-year-old motorist said that a purloining pit crew made off with all four of his tires as his 2010 Nissan Maxima was parked outside of a home on 10th Avenue near 81st Street.

The victim said he had parked his car at 1:30 am on Feb. 5 and returned hours later to find the tires and rims missing.
