On Oct. 29, the
Brooklyn chapter of the New York State Restaurant Association
will bring together 25 Brooklyn restaurants from 6 to 9 pm at
Borough Hall (209 Joralemon St. at Court Street) for yet another
tasting event. And this time, you’ll be expanding your waistline
      for a good cause.
Monday’s "Taste in Tribute" is a fundraiser in honor
of the 95 firemen from Brooklyn who were lost on Sept. 11 at
the World Trade Center. All proceeds from the ticket sales will
be given to the Independence 9-11 Fund.
"All checks should be noted ’Brooklyn’s Bravest’ for funds
to be channeled into the firehouses fund which we’ve set up,"
said Rebecca Dow, membership services director of the NYS Restaurant
Association. "There were 25 [Brooklyn] firehouses in total
that lost men. They’ll have this money divided based on those
losses. It will be up to the firehouses to decide how to use
money – for memorials or presents for the kids."
Among the 22 restaurants, microbreweries and vintners donating
their services, raffling gift certificates or sampling foods
at the three-hour event will be Brooklyn Restaurant Association
      president Joseph Chirico, pictured.
Chirico’s Carroll Gardens restaurant, Marco Polo, will offer
samples of sardines stuffed with breadcrumbs, wild fennel, garlic,
raisins, bay leaf and pignoli nuts and Chef Francesco Insingo’s
roasted veal au jus with porcini mushrooms. Chirico’s Downtown
restaurant, Gage and Tollner, will offer Charleston she crab
      soup and lobster crab cakes.
Other restaurants offering mouthwatering samples include Henry’s
End, Vaux Bistro, Grappa Cafe, Cranberry Cafe and River Cafe’s
Brooklyn Ice Cream Factory. (The factory will feature their birch
beer floats – a big hit at Monday’s Brooklyn Eats event.)
Tickets are $50. To purchase by phone, call Rebecca Dow at (646)
      562-0550 ext. 28.
