Water worries run deep – Mural puts spotlight on conservation & preservation

Budding conservationists turned to a new canvas to issue a call to save one of the planet’s most important resources — a wall in Park Slope for a mural about water preservation.

The 14 youngsters, who enlisted the help of muralists from a grassroots arts group for the large-scale project, were on hand for its pomp-filled unveiling at the corner of 4th Avenue and Sackett Street.

The handsome depiction — part of a sticker campaign, urging New Yorkers “to respect and conserve the city’s water” — is one of six self-empowerment works created for the city by youngsters, ages 14 to 21, enrolled in Groundswell’s Summer Leadership Institute.

The artwork was created in partnership with the New York City Department of Environmental Protection (DEP).
