Commitment, dedication and drive are words typically used to characterize a Xavier high school graduate but in the case of Giancarlo C. Rindone, three other words also come to mind — duty, honor and country. Rindone will join a select group of students this summer as part of the entering class of 2013 at the United States Military Academy at West Point.
According to Rindone, he wasn’t worried about how he stacked up against the other students, he said. “I wanted to do well for myself. I’m happy that I’ve been lucky to be successful academically.”
It is this personal drive that helped him achieve acceptance into West Point. “The application process for the school was intense and took a lot of my focus and attention” stated Rindone. He found the process more demanding than other college applications.
As part of the application process, Rindone had to go through military interviews, pass a physical test and receive a nomination from a member of the United States Congress. He received that endorsement from former U.S. Congressman Vito Fossella.
His father, Paul Rindone, added, “I am very proud of my son’s accomplishments.” Noting how difficult it was to gain acceptance into West Point, even with a congressional nomination. “I am proud of Giancarlo’s academic achievements and admission into West Point, humbled by his passionate desire to serve and lead his country, and honored to be the father of a young man who has chosen a path of courage and integrity,” concluded the beaming dad.
