Ironbirds 5
Cyclones 4 (12 innings)
Wednesday, July 8, at Keyspan Park
If a 10-game winning streak had to end, it couldn’t have ended more gloriously. The Cyclones were down to their last out in the bottom of the ninth when Doc Doyle doubled in the tying run.
Yes, reliever Mike Powers tired after two-plus innings of work and gave up a the winning run in the 12th, but this was a loss that the Cyclones don’t need to be ashamed of.
John Servidio lead off the home first with a solo shot, his fourth of the year. He later had an RBI double in the fourth.
Starting pitcher Wes Wrenn was great over his six innings, but the Ironbirds scored three in the seventh to build a 4–3 lead.
Though the Clones did come back, they fell in 12.
The win reduced the squad’s record to 16–2 and accounts for the only home loss so far this season.
