Wilco to pack ‘em into McCarren Pool

Chicago rock band Wilco will play McCarren Pool in Williamsburg, Brooklyn on August 13. The concert will benefit the Open Space Alliance and is the band’s only New York area appearance this summer.

Since Jeff Tweedy assembled Wilco more than a decade ago, they have released six studio albums, including the current trio of releases on Nonesuch Records: last year’s “Sky Blue Sky,” “A Ghost is Born” (2004, Grammy Award Winner) and “Yankee Hotel Foxtrot” (2002). In the ’90s they released three albums for Reprise Records: 1999’s “Summer Teeth,” 1996’s “Being There” and their 1994 debut effort, “AM.”

This line up of Wilco — singer/guitarist Jeff Tweedy, bassist John Stirratt, drummer Glenn Kotche, keyboardist Mike Jorgensen, guitarist Nels Cline and multi-instrumentalist Pat Sansone — have played hundreds of concerts around the world since assembling in May of 2004 and have become one of the genre’s most popular and respected live acts.

The Open Space Alliance for North Brooklyn (OSA) is a not-for-profit which, through fund raising and working with our community, elected officials and the New York City Parks Department, furthers the restoration and preservation of existing parks, and the development of new parks in Greenpoint/Williamsburg, weaving these green spaces into a tapestry of parks as a resource for the people of New York City.
