Williamsburg fire kills two

A fire ripped through a Williamsburg apartment building early Monday morning, killing two residents, according to authorities.

Police say they first heard about the blaze at a three-story building on Richardson Street between Union Avenue and Lorimer Street around 1:35 am, but the fire department didn’t get subdue the flames until 4:47 am, according to a department spokesman.

Upon searching the charred building, firefighters discovered two unidentified victims, a man and a woman, who emergency medical services declared dead at the scene, the fire spokesman said.

Two firefighters sustained minor injuries while fighting the flames, according to the department.

Authorities are still investigating the cause of the fire, cops said.
