Cyclones 3
Ironbirds 2
Tuesday, July 7, at Keyspan Park
The Cyclones increased their winning streak to 10 games — and continued the dominating pitching that has marked the squad’s miraculous 16–2 opening run.
Starter Mark Cohoon (4-0, 1.67 ERA) scattered seven hits — and got his win thanks to a great play after he was relieved in the eighth. With the Clones clinging to a 3–2 lead, reliever Michael Johnson walked a batter than gave up a double that sent left-fielder Nicholas Santamauro onto his horse. He fired to second-baseman Matt Gaski, whose relay throw gunned down the Ironbird at the plate to preserve the Cyclone lead.
The Brooks got on the board first, as always, on a Ralph Henriquez two out RBI single.
After Aberdeen tied the score in the second, the Cyclones added another run in the third on back-to-back doubles by Henriquez and Luis Rivera.
Again, Aberdeen stormed back — and again the Cyclones added a run to keep the lead, this time on a Matt Gaski triple.
The win kept the Cyclones undefeated at home.
