Council Speaker Christine Quinn summoned the Brooklyn press corps to Junior’s for a roundtable on July 31.

Quinn (D–Manhattan) mostly wanted to talk about the Council’s restoration of $129 million that had been cut from city schools in the preliminary budget: “We wanted our teachers and students to have the same resources this year as they had at the end of last year,” she explained.

Apparently the budget remains tight, because reporters and photographers were treated to only coffee and bread — not the venerable Flatbush Avenue diner’s famed twin brisket sandwiches with cheesecake as a dessert.

At least one of the reporters muttered about the state of journalism today.
