Woman sets down wallet, sneak thief snatches it

A nogoodnik lifted a woman’s wallet at an Avenue U shopping center on Nov. 30.

The woman told police that she was sitting on a bench inside the center near E. 54th Street around 5 pm and placed her money pocket on the seat. After briefly turning around for a few minutes she turned back to discover that it was gone, according to the report. Cops say the wallet contained her identification card and a debit card, and are reviewing surveillance camera footage to identify the thief.

Cut and ran

Two brigands robbed a mobile phone retailer on Kings Highway near Utica Avenue on Nov. 30.

A witness said that two bandits came into the store around 5:45 pm and went for a display case. When one of the thieves left the store, the other remained and cut the cables connecting two new phones to display case, according to the report. Cops say that minutes after both crooks fled the scene in a gray sports utility vehicle.

Slashed, and dashed

Officers nabbed a woman for damaging a car parked on Glenwood Road and E. 59th Street on Dec. 2.

The car’s owner told police around 10:25 pm, the suspect used a box cutter to scratch up his vehicle and also stole a credit card and an identification card, according to the report. Police caught up with her minutes after the incident and cuffed the suspect.

Digital swipe

Someone stole several electronics from a car parked in an Avenue U parking lot on Dec. 1.

Cops say the man left his car in the lot near E. 56th Street around 1:45 pm and went to a hardware store, only to return and find that his vehicle was raided. Police say two laptops and a smartphone were stolen, according the report.
