Works by artists from South Asian Women’s Creative Collective

BRIC Arts presents “A Wild Gander” at BRIC Rotunda Gallery, an exhibition of artists from the South Asian Women’s Creative Collective. There will be an opening reception March 24 form 7-9 p.m. with the exhibition on view through May 1. Additionally, “Look Left: Readings from SAWCC,” will be held April 14 at 7 p.m.

“A Wild Gander” features the works of Chitra Ganesh, Mala Iqbal, Jesal Kapadia, Yamini Nayar and Divya Mehra. The title of the exhibition is drawn from Joseph Campbell’s collection of essays, “The Flight of the Wild Gander,” which references the Sanskrit concept of the paramahamsa, an enlightened spiritual teacher who transcends the mundane, just as geese (hamsa) are able to transcend the earth through flight.

The artists reflect on the complex issues that frame South Asian identity, whether based in gender, media representations or politics.

The Gallery is at 33 Clinton Street in Brooklyn Heights. For more, call 718-875-4047 or visit www.bricartsmedia.org.
