Amed Rosario went four-for-five last night against the Jammers, but it wasn’t to break the Clones worst losing streak of the season in a horrible way —by blowing an early five-run lead.
After scoring a run in the first, Clones used small ball to tack on four more runs in the second. With one out, Michael Bernals got an infield hit before stealing second base and scoring on a single to center by Jeff Diehl. A passed ball sent Diehl to second before Luis Arrizurieta walked. The runners were advanced a base on a ground out by Joe Tuschak, then scored on Rosario’s double to left. Jhoan Urena then singled in Rosario for the Clones final run.
But Cyclones starter Casey Meisner couldn’t get bast the third inning, giving up four runs before Mike Hepple came in as relief. Hepple threw a wild pitch that scored another run tying the game. The Cyclones used five more pitchers until the Jammers broke through with two runs in the 10th.
The reeling Cyclones look to end the team’s seven-game losing streak at FDNY Night at MCU Park as they again face the Jammers tonight at 7 pm.
Ups and downs
Striking out left and right: Not only are the Cyclones striking out more than any other team in the league, but the team also has the player who strikes out the most in the New York-Penn League. As of July 17, Outfielder Michael Bernal has struck out 25 out of 46 at bats in the month of July alone. He also has at least one strike out in his last 12 games. But when Bernal does put the ball in play, he is hitting .404.
Going the distance: The Cyclones have four players who have appeared in 30 or more games this season, with Michael Bernal, Michael Katz, and Amed Rosario all reaching that number.
Stage fright: SNY was at MCU park on July 17, broadcasting the first of two Cyclone games this season. The Cyclones are currently 2–5 when SNY comes to visit, and are out-scored 42 to 21 in the last three years when being televised.
