Rabbi Efraim and Rebbetzin Chanie Zaltzman will be honored for 10 years of their distinguished service and dedication to Young Israel of Brighton Beach and the Brighton Beach community during a Gala & Benefit Reception celebrating the 65th anniversary of the Young Israel of Brighton Beach synagogue.
The affair will be held at Young Israel of Brighton Beach,” 293 Neptune Avenue, December 7 at 6 p.m.
According to Steven Frohlich, president of the synagogue, “Young Israel of Brighton Beach has been serving the Jewish community of Brighton Beach for 65 years. Rabbi Efraim Zaltzman is responsible for not only helping Young Israel survive, but with his leadership and dedication it has in fact thrived for the past 10 years. The Brighton Beach Jewish community – observant and non-observant Jews, alike – is fortunate to have such a devoted rabbi serving its spiritual needs.”
Rabbi Zaltzman, who speaks fluent Russian (his parents were born in the former Soviet Union), has helped spread Judaism throughout the Brighton Beach community. His relentless and tireless outreach, includes teaching Torah classes, arranging adult circumcisions, organizing Shabbatons, arranging for a community-based “Mitzvah Tank,” and also inspiring otherwise non-observant Jews to begin observing Judaism “one mitzvah at a time,” just to name a few.
Rabbi Zaltzman stated, “Although being honored is not at all necessary, I am very excited to be celebrating the 65th anniversary of Young Israel of Brighton Beach. As the rabbi of Young Israel for the past 10 years, I feel fortunate to be in a position to reach out and serve the spiritual needs of the Brighton Beach Jewish community.”
Because of Rabbi Zaltzman’s leadership and dedication, Young Israel of Brighton Beach has grown and strengthened its important role as a center of, and influence on, Jewish life in Brighton Beach. Rabbi Zaltzman, together with his wife Chanie, the synagogue’s rebbetzin, have worked to make the Young Israel into a warm and welcoming home for Jews from all walks of life.
Rabbi Efraim and Rebbetzin Chanie Zaltzman – a teacher at the Yeshiva of Flatbush High School – and their five children currently live in Brighton Beach.
