Curious young minds received a lesson in subterranean treasures in their very own ‘classroom on the pier,’ courtesy of a pair of professional divers, who geared up in their scuba suits and led an expedition of the historic treasures that lie beneath Coney Island.

Commercial divers Gene Ritter and Lenny Speregen offered a group of local children a unique look at what lies below sea level, using high-tech video cameras and monitors to conduct the boardwalk classroom at Steeplechase Pier %u2013 near Surf Avenue and West 19th Street %u2013 where the bright-eyed bunch also had a chance to peruse artifacts unearthed by the daredevil duo over their distinguished, decades-long careers as professional divers.

Youngsters discovered the wonders of marine life, in addition to the type of diving equipment used to view it.

The exciting seminar also provided career-minded youngsters with information about available jobs in the industry.
