Youngsters have a big appetite for greener schools

Councilmember Bill de Blasio enjoyed a breakfast at Aunt Suzie’s Restaurant in Park Slope with students from several Brooklyn public schools who competed in and won the “Green Your School” contest.

“To create a greener Brooklyn we need to encourage our children to think about how they can better protect and preserve the environment.

“I am extremely proud of the many students who came up with so many creative ideas about how they can make their lives and their schools more environmentally friendly,” said de Blasio.

The contest, co−sponsored by the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC), invited elementary and middle school students from 21 public schools to submit a one−page essay on the best way to make their school more environmentally friendly or “green.”

During breakfast, students discussed their winning essays and their ideas on how to make public schools more “green” with de Blasio.
