Building a sense of community
Tenants at one central Brooklyn housing complex are being offered financial remuneration for referring friends and family for apartments.
The Resident Referral Incentive Program was kicked off earlier this month at Flatbush Gardens, a 59-building, 2,496-unit complex in the area bounded by Newkirk, Nostrand and Brooklyn Avenues, and Farragut Road.
As it is, nearly 30 percent of new rentals at the complex “come through referrals from present tenants,” noted Rick Miaw, who is director of leasing for the 30-acre property.
Now, Miaw said, tenants can get one-time rent credits for doing what they often do anyway %u2013 “with the first referral providing $100, the second $200 and the third $300,” according to information provided by the complex, which has been undergoing renovation since it was purchased by Clipper Equity in 2005.
“Building a sense of community here is very important to us,” Miaw stressed, adding, “We see this incentive program as a way to strengthen that environment.”
Rents at Flatbush Gardens range from $900 per month for a studio apartment to $1,550 for a three-bedroom apartment. The complex averages a 98 percent occupancy rate.
