A 10-year-old boy is clinging to life following a horrific accident in Midwood.
Witnesses told police that the child, a member of the area’s close-knit Orthodox community, allegedly ran out into the street near East 2nd Street and Avenue J at 8 p.m. on September 22 when he was struck by a passing car.
The child was immediately rushed to an area hospital, where he was listed in extremely critical condition with head injuries.
He has since been transferred to a pediatric facility connected to Long Island Jewish Medical Center, where he is listed in critical but stable condition.
“He’s made it through the last 72 hours, so he has a pretty good chance,” said a source close to the incident Thursday. “We don’t know if there is any brain damage.”
Investigators said that no charges have been filed against the driver.
