2009 Turkey trot shifts into high gear%A0

A cardio-canter got the juices jumping, just in time for turkey day, when industrious students at the Bay Ridge Preparatory School joined festive forces for their 12th Annual Turkey Trot, and raised more than $65,000 for the independent learning institute.

The nimble-footed bunch stepped off the benefit trek at the community running track, 79th Street and Shore Road, where students in Grades K-4 ran a course of a little less than a quarter-mile, while students in Grades 5-12 joined teachers, alumni and parents for a fun-run of just over a mile.

The jaunt, sponsored by the school community and area businesses, was followed by a celebratory meal of bagels and hot chocolate in the school, 8101 Ridge Boulevard.

Proceeds will help purchase an electronic and interactive instruction tool called a SMART Board.
