‘500 Years of Music for Guitar’

‘500 Years of Music for Guitar’

Guitarist Peter Griggs will present “500 Years of Music for Guitar” in concert at Zion German Evangelical Lutheran Church, 125 Henry Street in Brooklyn Heights, September 10 at 8 p.m.

Griggs, a native of New York City who has been based in Düsseldorf, Germany for the last seven years, will be presenting a series of concerts throughout New York State in September. By combining Spanish and Brazilian guitar techniques with a jazz musician’s sensibility, Griggs offers a refreshingly different perspective to the classical guitar.

In “500 Years of Music for Guitar,” guitarist and composer Griggs presents a chronological tour of the modern guitarist’s repertoire from the Renaissance to the Contemporary, with music by John Dowland, JS Bach, Mateo Carcassi, Bartolome Calatuyud, Django Reinhardt and Baden Powell — as well as his own compositions. He also includes some examples of Spanish Flamenco and Brazilian music on the program as well.

Admission is by donation after the performance, and CDs will also be available for purchase.
