69th Precinct introduces nabe to new executive officer

Canarsiens were introduced to the second in command at the 69th Precinct, during a recent community forum.

Captain Michael Telfer, the newly appointed executive officer at the 69th Precinct, meet members of the Friends United Block Association (FUBA), gathered at Temple Shaare Emeth, 6012 Farragut Road, for their September meeting.

A long-time police officer, Telfer told the group, “I’ve been a cop all my life,” beginning in Jamaica, where he was born. After six years as a police officer there, Telfer recalled, he had come to the United States, and served with the NYPD, most recently in Harlem’s 20th Precinct.

To come to Canarsie, he noted, “Is a lot like coming home.” He has been walking and driving the streets, getting to know the community and its residents, he said, stressing, “Public service is my passion.”

His goals? To “help people” and “improve the quality of life” in the community he serves.

“That’s what it’s all about,” Telfer stressed.
