76th Pct. shake-up-Michael Kemper transferred to ‘burg

The new year brought new changes to the command structure of two area police precincts.

NYPD officials announced Friday that Inspector Michael Kemper, the commanding officer of the 76th Precinct, was transferred to lead cops in Williamsburg’s 90th Precinct.

Captain Kenneth Corey, formerly of the NYPD Intelligence Division, was assigned to take over the 76th Precinct, which protects residents in Carroll Gardens and Red Hook.

Kemper is replacing Deputy Inspector John Corbisiero, the longtime commanding officer of the 90th Precinct. Corbisiero was transferred to lead a detective unit in Queens, officials said.

Kemper was in charge of the 76th Precinct for three years before his transfer. Before the 76th Precinct he was the executive officer of the 75th Precinct in East New York.

“Over the last three years I met many great people and made many good friends,” Kemper told this paper. “I truly loved my experience there and am confident that Captain Corey is going to fit in perfectly and do well.”

Kemper said that he has had “long discussions” with Corbisiero about crime trends and concerns in the 90th Precinct, which he admits are quite different than the 76th Precinct.

“There are different issues and different complexities and community issues, but I look forward to my time in the 90th Precinct,” he said.
