9/11 crooner sings for Public School 312 students

Award-winning singer songwriter Hank Fellows was a big hit when he visited Public School 312 to serenade students and staffers with a medley of his popular tunes.

The New Yorker, best known for his songs about 9/11, performed for a rapt audience in the auditorium of the school, 7103 Avenue T.

Fellows was living in New Jersey across the Hudson River from the World Trade Center when terrorists struck on September 11, 2001, killing close to 3,000 people.

After the attacks, Fellows, who witnessed the destructive aftermath, was compelled to write a love song about the grief-stricken nation, entitled, “The Spirit of America,” followed by another, “Halfway to Heaven.”

Since then, the songs have been performed in schools, churches and civic organizations throughout the country, including the Boy Scouts of America and the Salvation Army.

In addition, Fellows has donated hundreds of copies of his CDs and sheet music to teachers, who use his songs to uplift youngsters in troubling times.

The performer has received four popular music awards from the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers, and a special achievement award at the Unisong International Song Contest.
