The Brooklyn Bridge morphed today into a house of worship for the faithful, who recalled the death and resurrection of Christ with the annaul Good Friday march across the span.
Thousand of believers followed Frank Simmons, who carried a simple (but big!) wooden cross at the head of the the 15th annual Way of the Cross trek that symbolically retraces Christ’s journey to his crucifixion.
The procession began at the Cathedral of St. James in Downtown and continued across the world-famous viaduct to St. Peter’s Church in Lower Manhattan for culminating rites.
Along the way, there were prayers.
Marcher Maurizio Maniscalco urged the faithful to see the death of Christ not as something that could be “relegated to the past,” but an event that “mysteriously affects our lives today.”
